The XPS-C8 is accessible via ethernet and resides in the local X1A
subnet (see our website for network
info). It
offers an HTTP server as well as an FTP server. A logged in
Administrator can change the configuration. The two main
configuration files are CONFIG/stages.ini, which contains
technical specifications of all stages in use, and
CONFIG/system.ini, telling what stage is connected to which
driver slot and the names under which they are known. Copies of these
files configured to our needs are in cvs/src/stxm5/newport.
The unit we have chosen in system.ini is mm for all
stages. The unit internally used by the XPS is encoder pulses. The
unit shown externally can be freely chosen by the entry
EncoderResolution and has to be used consistently for all
other entries in stages.ini. (It would make sense for us to
choose the unit as
m. But the XPS' remote control cannot handle
positions outside of
(long signed integer /
). So
on the remote control and the web interface, positions will be given
in mm. This requires some caution by the user!)
There are two ways to change the XPS configuration. You can edit the two files on your local computer, then upload them via FTP to the XPS and reboot. Or you can use the XPS' web interface from any web browser of your choice. There you can also change additional things as the IP configuration, add users, change passwords etc. Using the web interface is fairly intuitive and further info can be found in the XPS manual. How to move motors over the web interface is described in the STXM5 User Manual.
