Recording the Template

Before you can start a stack you need to record a scan serving as template. Do this by using SM_GUI as described in 5. Make sure that you have recorded the specimen in x-ray focus (Alignemnt $\rightarrow$ Edit Alignment $\rightarrow$ Record Specimen $\rightarrow$ Record Specimen in X-ray Focus). If you forget this, your stack will probably be out of focus.

Recording an $I_0$ template
It may happen, that the specimen you are imaging is so big, that it fills the whole field of view. If you need an $I_0$ region in later analysis of the stack, you have the option of recording a second template - away from the sample location - that contains enough empty space for your purposes. It is probably best, to choose the same pixel size as in the actual sample template and make the scan as small as possible (maybe 30x30 pixels). In the stack you can then choose to record both scans (sample and $I_0$ region) at each energy.
