While acquiring point spectra, your sample will be moved to keep
it in the x-ray focus as the monochromator changes its wavelength
(unless you uncheck Advanced
Track
ZSTG in Spectra). For this to work properly, you will have wanted
to record the x-ray focus on the sample beforehand (see Sec. 2.8). Note that while STXM III could only acquire
512 points in a spectrum, in STXM V one can record any reasonable
number of points.
People frequently use very long dwell times for acquiring spectra. Because we are recording a 100kHz reference clock signal with a 16 bit (actually 24, but we cut it down to 16) scaler, the dwell should not exceed 500ms (actually 655ms, but there needs to be room for fluctuations).
