We are using two different controllers, to drive the microscope motors. While the motors with interferometer correction (XPZT,YPZT,ZSTG) are driven by a Delta Tau PMAC all other motors are driven by a Newport XPS-C8 (formerly MM3000). The XPS has a STOP ALL button in the front, for emergency breaks of all motors. The same stop signal is raised by the infrared interlock system. As a single person in precarious situations, it is impossible to monitor the motor motion and have the STOP ALL button in reach, while moving the motors via SM_GUI's Move menu (5.13) on the beamline computer. One option would be, to run SM_GUI on a laptop (see 11.3) in an elevated position. As an alternative, there are other interfaces to the XPS controller:
