Software correction

The easier way is to let software correct for the drift. In this option at each energy change the piezo stage moves the sample in $X$ and/or $Y$ a little (according to the entered drift parameters) to keep the same spot of the sample in the focus position.
For this just enter the previously calculated drift parameters in Alignment $\rightarrow$ Edit Alignment $\rightarrow$ Record Advanced and click Drift: Record Parameters. You may want to Write the Alignment File to prevent the parameters form getting lost at a computer crash.
Disadvantages of this method:

• If drift and scan are large you may run into a piezo's limit, while doing a stack.
• In pointspectra with current hardware (could be helped by redoing the clockinterface) we can correct only for one axis. Naturally we choose this to be the axis with the larger drift, but that may still not be enough to stay an 1$\mu$m large spot.
• Generally this is the low road to take.
