The easiest way to look at data files is by using the SM_GUI graphical user interface as described in Chap. 5. The stand-alone version, which everybody can run on his own computer using the IDL Virtual Machine, is just the microscope control program stripped off all hardware control features.
Most users should be able to do all their data review and analysis with this program and / or the stack_analyze and pca_gui programs for spectral analysis. Even though the use of SM_GUI should be quite intuitive, the user might benefit from a few paragraphs in this chapter to understand all the available options.
