When the microscope operator records a data file and chooses to save it, it will be stored in the microscope server computer's data directory under a name like
x1aos_20050610_0024.sm
The first part of the file name describes the microscope (see Table 1.1), the second part is the date in the format YYYYMMDD and the third part is a consecutive number for the data files recorded that day.
