Overview
A typical sequence of steps for a new user get data on STXM 5
might be:
- Mount the sample on a sample holder and insert it into
the microscope (see Sec. 2.4).
- Pre-align and pre-focus the sample using the
visible-light microscope (see
Sec. 2.4 and 2.3).
- With detector and specimen inserted take first coarse
scan to see what is going on (see Sec. 2.6).
- Try to find better x-ray focus using a grid bar or so (see
Sec. 2.8).
- Take a large overview scan and move to an area of
interest (see Sec. 2.6).
- Find an interesting sample and refocus (see
Sec. 2.8).
- Take one or more high-resolution scans of the area of
interest.
- At this point, you'll probably want to acquire a "stack"
(image sequence at different energies, see
Sec. 2.11).
