Overview

A typical sequence of steps for a new user get data on STXM 5 might be:

  1. Mount the sample on a sample holder and insert it into the microscope (see Sec. 2.4).

  2. Pre-align and pre-focus the sample using the visible-light microscope (see Sec. 2.4 and 2.3).

  3. With detector and specimen inserted take first coarse scan to see what is going on (see Sec. 2.6).

  4. Try to find better x-ray focus using a grid bar or so (see Sec. 2.8).

  5. Take a large overview scan and move to an area of interest (see Sec. 2.6).

  6. Find an interesting sample and refocus (see Sec. 2.8).

  7. Take one or more high-resolution scans of the area of interest.

  8. At this point, you'll probably want to acquire a "stack" (image sequence at different energies, see Sec. 2.11).
