Scan Types in the Scan Menu

Piezo
A scan of the X piezo vs. Y piezo, for fine, high-resolution scans of sample areas smaller than 100 microns.

Stepper
A scan of the X vs. Y stepper motor for coarse scans with a large field of view.

Detector
A scan of X vs. Y detector, for detector alignment or diagnostics. Not for general users. This option might be password-protected. If you don't know the password, and nobody wants to tell it to you, we probably don't want you to do this kind of scan because you can easily crash the detector stage into somewhere.

Point Spectrum
A 1-dimensional scan of the monochromator, where the sample stays fixed in X and Y. The sample will be tracked in Z though to stay in focus - make sure you recorded the sample in X-ray focus!

Horizontal (Vertical) Focus
A scan of X (Y) piezo vs. Z stage (usually over a sharp edge) to determine the x-ray focus.

Horizontal (Vertical) Contrast
A scan of X (Y) piezo vs. energy (monochromator) to see which energy gives the strongest contrast.

Custom
In this case, you can determine the two scan devices yourself. This option can also be password-protected, see above. You have to know what you are doing before you start a custom scan!

Not all scan devices are allowed on the fast axis.
