Beamline optics

A good general description of the beamline is published [1]. Addtional details are provided in Chap. A. An approximation of the angular piece of undulator light seen by each endstation is given in Fig. 3.1.

The top figure shows the optical configuration for each branch line, while the bottom figure shows how the two branch lines are related to each other. The NSLS refers to the two branch lines as X1A1 and X1A2, while we often refer to them as outboard and inboard, respectively, according to their positions relative to the storage ring.
