Safety and environmental issues

Safety is of overriding importance in operations of the X1A beamline, and in any of our activities. According to your NSLS safety training, you have the right to issue a stop work order in any situation where you feel that safety is being compromised.

The beamline is a safe place to work at provided you use common sense, think twice about what you're doing, and follow your NSLS safety training. You should be aware that there are certain equipment items that produce high voltages; these are shown in Tables 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3.

Procedures for getting NSLS approval for your experiment, and the safety checklist that must be completed before shutters can be enabled, are shown on a separate web page.

The NSLS also provides procedures and facilities for the disposal of chemical and biological wastes. These are described on the NSLS ES&H web page.
