The machine x1a.nsls.bnl.gov has a PD2-MFS-8-500/16 data acquisition board (with PD-STP-9616-KIT screw-terminal connection kit???) from UEI. We are using version 3.6.1 of the Linux driver from UEI.
The file powerdaq_linux_3.6.1.tgz is copied to /usr/local/src and unpacked using tar xzvf. To build the driver on SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional (Kernel 2.6.8), make sure the package kernel-source is installed. Then you can do make and make install according to the instructions in the INSTALL file.
