Example: Environmental Sciences and Cluster Analysis
Cluster analysis of an environmental science specimen where Lutetium (as a stand-in for the radionuclide Americium) was allowed to react with Hematite (which can in turn undergo colloidal transport in groundwater).
By taking images across the oxygen absorption edge, and using cluster analysis to recognize pixels with common spectra, regions with different types of incorporation of Lutetium can be identified.
